How to Prepare for Your Kilimanjaro Climb

Fitness Preparation

Start training 3-6 months before your climb. Focus on hiking with a weighted backpack, cardio (running, cycling), and leg strength (squats, lunges, stairs). You don’t need to be an athlete, but good fitness greatly improves your experience and success rate.

Essential Packing List

  • Clothing: Base layers, fleece, insulated jacket, waterproof shell, hiking pants, thermal socks
  • Footwear: Waterproof hiking boots (broken in), camp shoes
  • Gear: Daypack (30-40L), headlamp, trekking poles, water bottles/bladder, sleeping bag (-10°C rated)
  • Extras: Sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, hand warmers, personal medications, power bank
